Case Study #2: Accessibility and Adaptability of Custom Solutions

The Client: Wave is a Solutions company partnering with organizations for Facility Change Management worldwide.

The Problem: The client wanted to design a Portal providing their customers with accurate, real-time information for use in corporate relocation and expansion decisions.

The Solution: ION was charged with developing an innovative website where large, multi-location companies including EDS/Hewlett Packard, Raytheon, and Nokia could access the information they needed. The back-end of the website is a custom-designed business-to-business software application providing facility-related data via the web 24×7.

Behind the scenes, the website publishes CADCAM drawings to the Internet using Autodesk’s MapGuide, a sophisticated, web-enabled mapping software application. MapGuide connects individual work areas (office space, conference rooms, cubicles, etc.) inside the CAD drawing to related information in an extensive SQL Database, allowing the clients and project managers to view and manage facilities globally in a secure environment. The related SQL data can be edited and interact in real-time by selecting the particular work areas.

The web-based software provided the following functionality:

• Track space and people
• Charge back space to business units
• Determine building efficiency
• Create timely reports (in a variety of currencies)
• Reorganize & restack
• Maintain as-builts
• Track assets: furniture, computers, people, etc.

ION continues to work closely with the client to create robust custom reports providing sophisticated data filtering and analysis capabilities.
